While my support for LGBT is ever increasing, i thought it might make sense to have a list of videos that anyone who is hearing it for the first time, or wants to understand what it means in terms of treating everyone as equal.
John Oliver is turning out to be one of my favourite hosts. As much as he looks like a comedian, each of the topics he takes up on Last Week Tonight, the amount of research and the effortless driving of the point makes him better than the usual journalist.
This next video will probably give you more of an insight into how the state of affairs are in India currently.
I will keep adding more enlightening videos here. I strongly believe that once people understand and open their minds to understanding "why" someone is gay , they will be able to eventually open up their hearts to understand that they are still what they are, irrespective of their gender identity or sexual orientation.
Many ask me how i would react if my son ends up being a transgender or identifies being gay.
To them, my answer is this - "He is my baby, irrespective of his gender identity or his sexual orientation". I will love him just the same.
10 years back, i would never have thought of something like this. I would never have imagined writing about this or even being asked for my opinion. I cringe at the thought that all these years, there were so many stories that remain untold. Many unhappy marriages.
Many unmarried men and women who could not be with the ones they loved.
Their confusion ending up in attempting to end their lives, or live in solitude. I cannot imagine a child being bullied at school because of his/her confusion with their unconventional actions/choices.
I want to take one small step to help many people to understand what they feel within and be able to share. If you are reading this and you know someone who is silently living it, do speak to them and tell them you are there for them. I am sure one person at a time, we can change the world.
