Growing up with TS !
So, TS here is Toy Story. I must have been 10 years old when the first Toy Story came out. I don't think I watched it in the theatre. I probably watched it on TV a couple of years later. Cut to today, I am out with my 10ish year old son watching Toy Story 5. It feels the same, yet there is a lot that has changed with time. Change is good. And still the characters are the same, they look the same, the movie feels the same. The interesting thing that I noticed is that this is another movie where the main lead is a woman, and this time, a 63 year old. Women and older women led movies also have so much to offer and entertain. It is amazing to see everyone enjoy without even noticing this anymore.
And the title is also valid for Taylor Swift. She has completed 20 years of her career. I have a week to go before I can announce that I have also been around in the world of IT for 20 years! Now that accomplishment deserves another post. Right now,it is interesting that TS had a song for TS5. It was definitely a missed opportunity not to put up a montage. It would have been perfect that way. It would have made people sit back to watch and hear the song until the last of the credits roll. A missed opportunity I'd say. But I am glad she's enough to promote this movie so that newer fans can join the Toy Story club.
This could be a movie spoiler, so do not read further if you are squeamish to even know the tiniest of details of a movie you've been eager to watch. The movie talked about the evils of technology and how it can ruin the connections and the ability to make friends. I felt they also showed how technology can help. Yet again, I would like to reiterate, all technology can be used for good and evil. We can choose HOW and WHAT we use it for. To shun it entirely and talking about a digital detox seems too superficial in this day and age. I remember how we had to dial a 16 digit code to be able to talk to my grandmother in Delhi from Chennai. Eventually we could write emails to each other and then have video calls. We had technology grow alongside us and TS. Before tabs and smartphones, we had TVs. Every generation has that something new that scares the previous generation because they do not have a precedent to know what it is like growing up with that new tech. Maybe my son will be worried about some new tech that his kids may be using 40 years from now! The only thing that is consistent is change. Embrace it and grow with it. Until next time, Happy Reading !
