Trying something new
So, if you know me well enough, you know that I am not too easily convinced to try out new experiences. I need a loooot of time, thinking and planning before I can even attempt to try something new. And here I was with friends at a Go Karting track. At every step, I was rethinking my decision to go ahead. First, when they asked to tie up my hair with a hair tie that they provided and gave a net for the head. Then, when they showed videos of folks crashing into different objects and warning about being careful. Next, when I wore that helmet. Finally when I sat in the car. They had to add a "baby" seat so that I could fit into the car snugly and then they pulled the pedals closer to me. Snugly fitted into the kart and the helmet, while waiting for our batch to start, I was thinking I still have time. All I needed to do was to get up and decline to move forward. That would not have taken time at all. As I sat, I managed to convince myself that all I needed was to take full control of the vehicle and I do not need to worry about anything else. And just like that the race started. And all that I was focussed was on completing one good lap without bumping into anyone. I completed 4 and did not end up the last overall. Now that is an achievement. 8 minutes of so much fun driving the kart and enjoying the race - something I would never have imagined doing earlier. I do need to try out new experiences and then form opinions on whether i enjoy it or not. I will most likely try out go karting again and probably have much more fun the next time. And while we were there, we played laser tag too. My team won by 50k points and i was top 3 scorer. I have never sweated after moving to Bangalore but the time spent inside playing laser tag, i was dripping in sweat and victory. Trying out new experiences will continue to scare me, but now I will not stop myself from doing things that I am not quite used to or things that scare me (ofcourse safe activities only).
So until my next adventure, Happy Reading.
