The grand dinner in the middle of a quake !

The last few days have been very stressful. After the earthquake on 11th March, Friday, we had managed to get over it by the weekend. Little did we know that there was more coming up in the following days. On Monday morning, we had just started getting on with our normal routine when another quake hit the area. After dashing out of the house, I found my Indian neighbor also rushing out. We stood outside for a while and then her husband returned from office stating that the quake led to an immediate declaration of a holiday. Through the day we started hearing news about Indians returning to India, or on their way back home. This lead to a discussion between me and my husband to decide what we wanted to do. We stuck to our decision of staying back until the night when more news, panic and anxiety at home and for people around started creeping into us as well. After that, it did not take us too much time into unanimously deciding to head back home for good. I already started thinking of p

Shaken , but not stirred !

That might look like a glass on a table , nothing more than that. But to me , it was the indication to duck under the table at the right time. March 11th was not just another day in Japan for me. I woke up 20 minutes later than usual , my husband did not join me for lunch and instead got home packed Indian food from a restaurant near by. It was around 2 pm that I managed to receive my parcel and until then i was fervently reading "Keeping Faith" by Jodi Picoult though it was not something that I would do so early in the day. After lunch I resumed reading because I needed to find out whether the custody of Faith White would go to her mother or her father. No sooner than I placed the book on the table , I felt slightly dizzy , a feeling that I had experienced a couple of days earlier as well. With doubt in my mind , I looked at the glass on the table. It stood perfectly still , but not the water inside. After a couple of seconds , the tremors increased to the extent that all m

Snow day !

Well , that’s how the snow covered roofs look like from my balcony. When I woke up today morning , it had just started snowing and within an hour this was how the entire street looked like. In India , everyone always fancies nice onion pakodas or bajjis on a cold, rainy day and that’s exactly what I made today ! Well , that was just part of a dish. I made Kadhi pakoda. A dish made out of Besan and curd. Tastes little like the South Indian Morukozhambu. Hot steaming rice , Kadhi , ghee and nice songs running in the background. What a better way to enjoy the cold weather. It is hard not to fall asleep after a heavy lunch. That’s why I blog. It excites me so much that I get rid of my natural tendency to fall flat on the sofa, watch highly boring movies and eventually fall asleep. For those of you whose mouth waters at the sight of my Kadhi , do try it at home. It is easy to prepare and yummy too. Bon Appetit !

Burger Queen

My husband was reading through my posts and noticed that almost all posts were related to food. I am not too much of a foodie , but I love to cook and present yummy delights to that one person who complains that all I write about is food ! And inspite of all that , he's the one who suggested the title ! Here was what we had as a snack that turned out to be our dinner instead. Here's our dining table filled with ingredients to make a yummy burger. The Burger buns , Potato cutlet , sliced tomatoes and green pepper , lettuce leaves. Main part of the burger is the aaloo tikki. Boiled potatoes , chillies , salt and some butter. Mashed all these together and added some Maida for it to blend in well and deep fried in oil with a coat of maida. The trial piece was yummy , so the same method was followed for the rest of the tikkis :) Oh , I just love to show off these colours ! My husband helps me with the photographs so that I don't end up smearing the camera with flour and oil. Ass

If Yan can cook , so can you !

If Yan can cook , so can you ! This was one of my favourite programmes on TV when I was a kid. My brother and I would watch this show out of sheer amazement at how effortlessly he handles his knife. He's always been an inspiration to me and now as I click photos of the dishes I make , I am reminded of my Hero , Martin Yan and I say , If Shweta can cook , so can you ! I have always been a sidekick at the kitchen when I was younger. I am still one when my mother or mother-in-law are in charge. And I am more than glad to be chopping veggies like Yan. Ofcourse I do manage to cook these days , but the best part of cooking , for me , is the cutting/chopping part ! So here's this post in dedication to Mr.Martin Yan , the guy who makes cooking look so easy , even though you know those skills come by only through practice and hard work. Here is a probably recent video of him in action. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4177237986590820979# My recent experiments on hubby dear. Ro

I don't wanna be a stoopid girl !

What happened to the dreams of a girl president She's dancing in the video next to 50 Cent They travel in packs of two or three With their itsy bitsy doggies and their teeny-weeny tees Where, oh where, have the smart people gone? Oh where, oh where could they be? Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back Push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl These are lyrics by Pink. I have started to like Pink more by the day for her attitude and her bold spirit. I have always loved her songs , and this one that I heard recently ( though it is an old one ) , really makes me wonder why girls are so obsessed with being girly ! Watching a movie like Black Swan or listening to stories from Portia de Rossi or other anorexic girls , you would really wonder if it was worth all that in the end. It sure feels good to be slim , but not at the cost of not eating well
