Stand up Comedy

Five minutes after watching a stand-up show by an Indian comedian, on the recommendation of my friend, who is probably the only one who regularly checks my posts, I am here to write. I am inspired. I do not like swearing. I do not think jokes are funny because of the usage of swear words. Where is the wit? The minute you use a swear word, I do not find it funny anymore. Then I realized what I saw on an advertisement for Masterclass on Stand Up Comedy by Steve Martin. My mother and I are huge fans of Steve Martin. He is one of the best movie comedians. Stand up, I would say I like Jerry Seinfeld. I have tried my hand at stand-up comedy at an office event. I don't think I was too bad, but yes, I can do better. I would not call myself particularly funny, and yet an opportunity to learn standup comedy from Steve Martin is an awesome opportunity. I love holding a mike in my hand. I enjoy standing in front of a crowd. I am thrilled with excitement before walking up to a stage in front

Cheap Thrills

Baby  I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight. I love cheap thrills. That is just a song by Sia. I have many cheap thrills that I secretly enjoy. Here is one of them. I work in an IT Co. Security is very tight. There are two guards who sit by the entrance door and randomly check bags. My cheap thrill is to avoid being "caught". Not that I have anything to hide. It is just fun to avoid getting searched. I know they are doing their duty, and I do not particularly enjoy being stopped on my way to eat my breakfast. I leave office at 7.30 am and reach by 9 am. No, the check does not take 15 minutes. Yet, I have a very creative way of avoiding her glance, eye contact and anything that will make her pick me. Every time that I escape that check, I feel victorious. What a way to start your day, huh?

Things I want to remember when i get old - Part 1

My son is nearing 3 years. A couple of days back something interesting happened and I would like to remember it when my memory starts failing me and I need to hang on to some memory. Well, I hope I remember this blog at least. This prompted me to document these small things that make me wonder how much kids can pick up from people around them. I had taken him out for his usual routine play at the park in our apartment complex. He went on to remove his shoes. April is a really hot month and I warned him against doing that. Told him, "Don't remove your shoes. It is very hot. Your feet will feel the heat". And he, as expected, went on to ignore my warning and removed his shoes. Then he stepped on the granite bench, jumped up after feeling the heat. Exclaimed, "Oh My God. It's so hot. I told you na. Do not remove your shoes. It will be hot". Looked at me and smiled, yet continued to play barefoot prompting me to do the same. I, however, did not last more than

Another Lazy Sunday Afternoon

As I am struggling with a writer's block, I am watching my son sleep. I remember how my brother used to comment, "She looks really innocent while she is sleeping" when he would see me sleeping. My son, the hyperactive child, has the most innocent face while he sleeps. I understand now what my brother meant. No amount of space seems enough for this 3feet long bundle of energy. Today, a Sunday, he insisted that I feed him lunch. Weekdays, his grandmother or grandfather would feed him lunch. Today, by the time he finished eating, told me he wanted to go to sleep. Mom in law was sleeping, so asked my husband to put him to sleep. I return in 5 minutes to see both of them fast asleep. Such a wonderful sight. I get some time off and relax. I have a hundred things to do and never the mood to do so. Yesterday, after a long time, I went out for a friend's wedding reception. Alone. Without my son, my husband or anyone from my family. I felt slightly guilty, yet it was a gre

Life on Social Media vs Reality

I am just a normal human being. I am not immune to being envious of the wonderful vacation posts and couple photos of my acquaintances on Facebook. I can hardly manage to take one photo with my better half. And even in those rare photos, I am not happy with the angle in which the photo was shot. It always makes me look fat! Well, I am 5 feet 4 inches and weigh in between 60 to 63 kilos. Not too bad you might think, but I am not like my friends who look hot even after having kids and look younger with each passing year. SIGH!  I hardly have any vacation that involves beaches without running behind a toddler and worrying about his fear of water. The rest of the vacations involve at least an instance of the toddler throwing up or just the fear of him doing it sometime during the journey. How to parents take their kids to such fancy places and have so much fun?  I do know that if I took photos of only the smiles and posted on any social media channel, there would be others who would thi
